The free half-day roadshows are to take place in eight locations across the UK during October and November.

Delegates will learn about how national occupational standards are developed and their potential uses for organisations. There will also be the opportunity to review the first draft Risk Management NOS units.

National occupational standards (NOS) are industry performance standards which set out requirements for effective performance in the workplace, covering issues such as recruitment and selection, competence assessment, training design and delivery, and drawing up person specifications and job descriptions.

FSSC director of education Sam Rees-Adams said: "Whilst there are many NOS which mention risk and risk management, these are not specific to the needs of the financial sector. Yet the current volatility in financial markets shows that firms need to ensure that their people are proficient in this area.

"This project will develop standards which will help organisations' strategic development and improve confidence amongst customers, employees and shareholders in the organisation's management and accountability."

The events take place on:

- Thursday 16 October - Leeds.

- Friday 17 October - Manchester.

- Monday 20 October - Edinburgh.

- Tuesday 21 October - Belfast.

- Wednesday 29 October - London.

- Thursday 30 October - Bristol.

- Tuesday 4 November - Birmingham.

- Tuesday 11 November - London.
